Re: snails and slugs and rain

Here in Santa Barbara, the lack of measureable rainfall in February, March,
and April (usually most of our wet season), prompted the scribe of our
local "Mens Garden Club" newsletter to remark that our snail population has
disappeared! Of course they are still with us but in deep hibernation. Our
total season rainfall has been about 20 inches, 3-1/2 inches above normal.
But most of it came early in October, November, and January. Our scribe
claims that this pattern is for the first time in over 130 years! Now we
shall have to watch carefully for the summer/fall fire season.
