True not many native california species are grown in people gardens. Idont
know why this is , maybe because theyre sometimes very short lived. There are
MANY natives to california that are very beautiful. ( sorry i only know the
common names, i know it makes it harder to identify the plant but this is all
i have to go by) Owls clover, a very beautiful Broadiea (sp?), popcorn
flower( though its a vernal pool plant), Brass buttons ( another vernal pool
plant) yerba santa, mariposa lillies, oak thistle ( less spiny than italian
or bull thistle)yarrow, chinese houses, skunk flower ( more of an oddity),
clarkia, theres Delphiniums ( as ive been told) native to cali, Columbines,
douglas iris, and many many more ( including cali. Poppies , and ive seen
some with yellow flowers) and many many more flowers than i can remember
