The best advice may well be not to have a lawn, but people
like them here in Mallorca. Stenotaphrum, and Cynodon
are the most used droughty grasses, with lawn mixtures for small
areas under full irrigation. We think we have a dwarf Stenotaphrum
that came from Mallaga but it is a carpet 3ft. thick in one spot
where it has not been cut. Quite a Chinese garden in itself.
And lots of books tell me that there are wonderful dwarf forms
of Cynodon in the States with snazzy names. 'Tifgreen' for example.
Hardly anyone here uses Dichondra, I don't know why. Kikuyu Grass
has not caught on either.
Incidentally why is Stenotaphrum called "St. Augustine Grass?
