Hi,
	I think that having the fronds together will keep a volume of relatively
still air in between the fronds which traps humidity from leaf
transpiration. This would help the plant from reducing its water loss.
Since it would have been just transplanted its root system must surely be
reduced, and its ability to take up water would have been reduced too, thus
any help it can get to reduce its water loss would help it from drying up,
and gives it a better chance to re-establish its root system.
I'm not entirely sure of this but in Bonsai when a tree is transplant
reducing the leaf mass for this reason is common.
