Sorry to be tardy in responding again. I just came across a new title that
looks like it would be a great resource for you:
'Plant Life in the World's Mediterranean Climates: California, Chile,
South Africa, Australia and the Mediterranean Basin', by Peter R. Dallman
(ISBN 0-520-20808-0). Just published by the California Native Plant
Society and UC Press.
"This is the first book to describe plant life in all five regions of
the world with a Mediterranean climate. Dallman has mastered the enormous
literature on the subject and has distilled the important points into
an engaging, readable, and beautifully illustrated book. His tips on
exploring these areas will be invaluable to prospective ecotourists."
Robert Ornduff, professor Emeritus, UC Davis
"Peter Dallman's scholarship is excellent, the range of topics he has
chosen is exceptional, and his reader-friendly writing style makes the
material fascinating. Many people will enjoy this book: students and
instructors in geography, ecology, climatology, and plant biology have a
superb text; gardeners who emphasize native plants have a valuable
field guide and reference; and those individuals who simply want to know
more about the environment in which they live will be educated and
entertained."
Michael Barbour, Professor, UC Davis
The cost is $29.95. Inquire at your local bookseller, or call the
CNPS at (916)447-2677, or write them at CNPS, 1722 J street, suite 17,
Sacramento, CA 95814. Be sure and tell them where you heard about the
book - they have been supportive of our projects here on the internet
and I'd like them to know we're getting the word out.
I'm cc'ing this e-mail to the Medit-Plants group in case they have
other ideas that might help your project. Gook luck!
