While we are on the smokey water idea. I have noticed and many people
raising protea and related plants that the lateral buds, in areas without
leaves go dormant and will not sprout. Seems that it wouldn't work for
plants adapted to areas with regular fires (i.e. the entire top could be
burnt/destroyed). Seems there should be a way in nature for the dormancy
of these lateral buds to be broken. Maybe the smokey water would work. I
need to test this on some of the "safari sunset" plants growing here. It
has a persistant rootstock. I figure prune it drastically and then apply
the smokey water (need to figue out a good way to make the stuff)...
Any ideas?
