Well, my "Websters Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English
Language" Lists "species"
as a word. The first meaning is: A class of individuals having some common
characteristics or qualities; distinct sort or kind". Anyways at least in
American English "species" is a word.It also says "specie" is coined money.
