attachements

Dear group -

I've intented to write this up for a little while now, so
please don't feel I am directly picking on the last post
with an attachment.

Since this group is made up of participatants from various
parts of the world and a diversity of backgrounds, it stands
to reason that the mode in which they participate in the
group is also quite diverse. Unfortunately, for some,
attachements on e-mail posts to the group can cause problems
for their mailer programs or computers in general. While
these folks are not the majority, it is not the intention of
this group to cater only to a certain few. The creation of
this forum as a listserv was intended to provide access to
as many people as possible, regardless of the type of
computer technology available to them. It is still the reason
why the groups remains as it does.

I won't bore people with the details about what happens on
some systems when images or document files are attached, but
I'd be happy to send them an example if they'd like to see
first hand what it can look like to some people - it might
graphically communicate the problem better than I could
articulate.

What I'm leading up to is an encouragement to participants of
this group to NOT place attachments in their posts. It would
be easy to offer to send these attachments to individuals if
they feel they'd like to see them. Or, if available, placing
the attachment on a web page and providing the URL is also a
good method. If you do not have web space available, I can
place items for people in a temporary directory on the
Medit-Plants web site.

I enjoy seeing some of the images people wish us to see, and
I also understand that certain information is not in text format
and I'd like to see it anyway. But I also maintain a mailer
which archives the Medit-Plants posts on a computer (for my
use in building the web pages) and this mailer is of the type
which cannot handle the attachments in any way. Seeing both
sides of the situations helps me understand why people find
this sort of thing difficult to deal with.

Lets try and maintain our cooperative and friendly ambience
by refraining from including attachments in our posts.
Thanks in advance for your understanding.
