I planted five largish (2 metre)nettle trees, Celtis australis, this
winter. All with heavily pruned branches and roots. They started
sprouting their first shoots at about the same time, two or three weeks
ago. Four seem OK with lots of new green growth. One, however, is
sending up shoots which shrivel up and dry - They never grow more than
an inch or so before they start to droop. All five trees get the same
amount of water and are planted as a group in the same part of the
garden. What can the problem be? Any ideas?

P.S. Thanks to all who gave encouragement with our new Atriplex halimus
hedge. The little plants are really taking off now after an unusually
rainy May.
