The fact that Cordyline is so fire proof has lead to many clumps
surviving the original burning of the forests when NZ land was cleared
for agriculture. In parts of our Wainui valley,forinstance, there are
extensive groves of cabbage trees springing up in otherwise grassy sheep
paddocks, perhaps a hundred years after the original forest was burnt
around them.
