A couple months ago I bought a 4 inch pot of Calochortus luteus 'Golden Orb'
from a San Francisco Bay retail nursery. Since then I have seen it offered
at several other retail nurseries and garden shops. The label, from the
producer Checkerspot Nursery, reads, " Garden tolerant variety of the
Mariposa Tulip. Clear yellow flowers in Spring. Sun-part shade. Well drained
soil. California native."
Perhaps this is the same plant you found but the label was lost.
