Re: Hummingbirds favorite plants

The plants that the hummingbirds always visit in my
garden are Salvia involucrata, Salvia chiapensis,
Salvia elegans and Tecomaria capensis aurea. They
seem to ignore the various Abutilons throughout the
garden, as well as the Fuschia boliviana, even though
these both stay in bloom in late fall through winter.
The Iochromas, Salvia 'Indigo Spires' and Salvia
uliginosa I have in the garden are also usually
ignored by them. I wonder if this is a function of
being in sun or shade, as they seem to prefer the
plants located in the sun in my cool temperature
garden, being most prevalent in the afternoon when it
has warmed up and usually gotten sunny, (the fog often
lingers here until 1 or 2pm).

The hummingbirds will always come into the garden when
the mist system in my plum tree is programmed to run,
and seem to remember what times of day it is set to
water. They love to fly through the fine drizzle, and
will also fly into the spray when I am handwatering in
the garden. They seem to have no fear of people, and
will allow you to get fairly close to watch them while
they play in the water.
