I remember one time i was watering my garden with an automatic sprinkler,
and a hummingbird flew right into the water, and followed the spray as it
moved back and forth. I can vouch that they will let you get very close to
them. I was out on my porch one day and since we have a Jasminum
polyanthum on a trellis on the side of the porch, a hummingbird flew very
close to me and was drinking nectar out of all of the flowers. I think it
got within two feet of me at times. I stayed still however, just to make
sure it wouldnt fly off.
