I grow P. digitalis and it lasts quite well as a cut flower (5-7 days),
but is not really spectacular in a vase, but good as a filler/background.
However, the flowers of P. barbatus (is that the one you mean?) drop very
quickly in a vase - good for overnight or 1 day only, but it does look
lovely.

Thanks John and all others for their info. Another question is their use
as a cut flower. Does their suitability vary from hybrid to hybrid and sp
to sp? They seem like they would make excellent cut flowers, but the one
mixed hybrid that I got from seeds last year seem to last only a few
days. I am in the process of looking into P. barbados (sp?) and
P. digitalis (sp?) as possible cut flowers, but not too sure as to how
long any would last (vase life). Any suggestions? Is it possible to
enhance vase life of this group in general? Any ideas? TIA
