Mediterranean peonies


Title: Mediterranean peonies

There are at least 10 species of peony native in the Mediterranean region. Here's a brief digest. While doing a little web searching I came across an intriguing website with many pictures http://www.paeon.de/ (a little German may help).

P. broteroi - Portugal & Spain - red
P. cambessedesii - Balearic Islands - pink-red
P. clusii - Crete, Karpathos & Rhodes - white, rarely pinkish
P. coriacea - Corsica, Sardinia, Spain & Morocco - red
P. cypria - Cyprus - red
P. mascula - Mediterranean region - white to pink to red
P. officinalis - Mediterranean region - pink to red
P. parnassica - Mt. Parnassos, Greece - blackish red
P. peregrina - E Mediterranean region - red
P. tenuifolia - SW Europe, W Asia - fennel-like leaves, red flowers
