David -

I noted this also (a large plant in my neighborhood in full bloom right
now). I assumed it came into bloom in time for the current significant
rain storm we're experiencing right now - it seems to always be the case
that the beautiful flowers of this tall Dahlia open just in time to be torn
to shreds by a winter storm . . . ;-)

My Senecio tamoides is looking really great right now, full of heads of
bright yellow on these cloudy, gray days. It'd look even better if I'd
managed to prune the rampant cotoneaster bush on which I've trained them to
grow (as a means of mitigating the unattractiveness of this shrub).

My second wave of Nerines is also still going - bright candy pink umbels of
tiny, trumpet-like flowers.

Euphorbia rigida (biglandulosa) is also early, just starting to put on a
few bracts!

Things are starting to 'recover' from the erratic hot/cold weather we've
had recently - some real rain really helps.
