Nan, we normally get 36 inches annual rainfall, so far we have had 18 inches and since the beginning of April just 5 and a half inches, not a drop from the beginning of April into July, severe frosts and freezing winds.
We had 2 and a half inches in July, and nearly an inch two weeks ago, the rest has been light falls/mist. We normally get rain all year round with the main rainfall from spring/summer thunderstorms. We've had virtually no spring, and temperatures in the high 20s/low 30s from October with strong drying winds.
The garden is coping remarkably well, but the areas under trees are of course much more stressed.
Shelley
Shelley, what is your normal rainfall and how does that compare to the rain have you gotten in this time of drought?
Given that we are in severe drought, and have been for most of this year, all these plants are coping remarkably well, with absolutely minimal water (and in fact some have had no water at all). Even in normal times most survive on rainfall only.
