Thanks to Joan, Richard and Einion
for their help. It was Einion's
method (Ctrl+Alt+4) that worked a treat although it came out as
gobbledygook in the email. Thank you all.
Perhaps someone could advise me about
my Paulownia tomentosa
which is now in its third year (about 3.5 foot high). The advice in this
country is to stool it each spring to encourage huge leaves. I am aiming
for the flowers so want to let it grow without interference. This spring, it
didn't break from the old stem but grew from new shoots at the base.
The original stem looks pretty lifeless. I know I have to wait for years
for it to mature enough to flower but can anyone suggest anything to
optimise its growth? It's in the ground, not in a pot, and I am prepared
to protect it with fleece or whatever is needed from frosty weather.
Temperatures can fall to -7C but infrequently and not for long spells.
Absolutely no predictability about it, however, this is the UK.
Joan
