Does anyone have experience in managing this perennial favorite? Some of the clumps I have are outgrowing the space I have them in, and I would like to shrink them back a bit. Is it okay just to remove the bulblets around the outside, or do I need to dig up the whole clump and replant the newer outer bulbs in the space? Do the central bulblets get pithy and die like in some other bulbous plants?Actually Karrie, Tulbaghia violacea doesn't have bulbs but grows from a fleshy rhizome which, so my book says, can be divided in warm spring or early summer weather. Dividing under cool wet conditions should be avoided or the plants may go into a decline.
I have grown this species myself in times past, but never got a far as dividing it before it succumbed to an unusually heavy frost!
Also, I am planning to move some Munstead lavenders to a place where they might show to better advantage. Do they transplant well, or am I wasting my time?Well I transplanted a couple of English lavenders last year which were being overshadowed by other plants and they have rewarded me by taking beautifully, so I should say it is well worth a try.
