I have three clumps of Aristea major and they flower every year, deep
blue and about 2m tall. I have not observed the seed pods closely so am
unsure if they set seed, but I haven't found any volunteers. In nearby
Wittunga Bot gdns (South African collections) they have big plantings of
it and have quite a variation in colour from white through shades of
blue to pinkish-mauve.
My plants get heavy winter rain but no summer irrigation. All three
grow in pretty open conditions but surrounded by other small shrubs and
tall perennials such as spuria irises and scented leaf geraniums. The
soil is well drained loam with some rocks mixed in.
I have found it difficult to get divisions to re-root and establish
successfully.
