The Chorisia thorns have been mentioned a couple times. I thought I should mention that they are easily knocked off . They seem to be a kind of surface growth. All people who grow this tree here in San Luis Obispo keep them off the trunk up to around 7 feet from the ground. I guess they don't expect people like Kareem to visit! ---Chas---

When I was first starting my studies in plants at Long Beach City College (CA), Chorisia speciosa struck me, too (by its beauty and not its spines!). There was one in the courtyard of the admissions building.
If I remember correctly, and forgive me if I am repeating what's already been said, it is tropical (or semi-trop) in origin. So, if you live in southern California, or a place with similar climate, it should grow well. Although, it may need quite a bit of water in which case I would choose a "less thirsty" tree.

Hello,
I just went to a nursery today and saw two veryother was Brachychitonwas Chorisia speciosa, floss silk tree, and theknow about their care, populneus. Has anyone grown either of these oravailable in a 24 inchetc?
I must have the Chorisia, (they only had thisnursery has one plantedbox - which will cost a pretty penny) - thegreen trunk and greenout front and it was so striking with its spinedBrachychitonlimbs. It is just setting buds to flower. Thegallon size. If Ipopulneus, bottle tree, was available in a 5Brachychiton at theremember correctly, I believe I saw a full grownback and the huge bottleHuntington gardens in Los Angeles a few yearstrunk was really spectacular.
There are so many wonderful plants out there.
