How funny. Here, it seems they all suffer from wind
damage in winter. I have not seen one, except on
somewhat sheltered streets that have not had a major
branch or the top leader snap off sometime during
winter. They aren't reliably colorful in fall... some
hold half of their leaves until spring sometimes!

I'm pretty happy they're using Metrosideros. It's a
pretty tree, well behaved, and quite refined looking.
Plus, even with spotty flower shows, it is still
pretty (and they attract humming birds).

Liquidambar can look good here, but they have to be
kept out of the wind.
