Re: No-water, flowering hardy shrubs/perenniels for 6 month shade -alkalai soil?


Thanks to Moira, David, Karrie, and Diane for the helpful suggestions.  My friend already has a Daphne.  I never would have thought of the Oxalis - or twining Clematis - I imagine Oxalis pes-caprae would make a very nice groundcover in those situations but I will refrain from recommending it. The sulphur and tea are great suggestions - I had not heard about sulphur's acidifying capability.  I imagine the addition of pine needles to the soil would greatly help keep it acid, as well as adding beneficial fungi -I would know where to scrounge for them here - but wonder how easy they are to obtain in London.
