solanums and hermannias

Ian: many thanks for info on hermannias and for the solanum
recommendation.

Matt: many thanks for info. on places of origin and hardiness levels
of my two mystery solanums - and name-correction for S. pyracanthum!

It doesn't sound as though S. marginatum is likely to survive in the
ground here, however much I protect it, and I don't have cuttings or
spare plants. (I was too much of a coward even to try for cuttings:
those darn spines...) So I shall be hoping hard on my own account that
those strange fruit are indeed setting viable seed. If they are, a
portion is reserved for you.

I haven't got cuttings of S. pyracanthum, either. Plants were simply
too small and relatively frail in appearance this year to encourage
the notion. Also it's such an up-and-at-'em plant, with almost no side
shoots, that the only obvious way to take a cutting would be to slice
off its head. Or are leaf cuttings feasible with these tropical
solanums? I've never tried but it suddenly occurred to me that that
might be an option. Has anyone had any experience with this? If they
survive the winter in my frost-free greenhouse, I'll certainly have a
go next spring - and will mark a couple down for you if I succeed.

Best wishes
