Provided your sandy soil is lime free, can be watered if necessary and the
site is sheltered from excessive cold winds the following should be
suitable (a meter is about 3 feet 3 inches - to maximum expected heights).

Arbutus andrachne - peeling red-brown bark - to 12 meters (lime tolerant)
Arbutus arizonica - silver grey bark - to 15 meters
Arbutus menziesii - especially beautiful bark - to 30 meters
Arbutus unedo - to 10 meters (lime tolerant)
Arbutus unedo fa rubra - to 10 meters - rich pink to red flowers (plants
only)
Arbutus xalapensis - to 12 meters
Arctostaphylos diversifolia - "Summer Holly" - shredded bark - to 5 meters
Arctostaphylos manzanita - to 6 meters (10 grams seed minimum order)
Arctostaphylos pringlei - to 2.5 meters
