To add further to the Pyrethrum discussion I have a book on Pyrethrum in
the TFG bookshop.
It is called "Pyrethrum Flowers" by J S Casida and G B Quistad published by
OUP in 1995.- 356 pages
At $140 OZ dollars it is only for the serious Pyrethrum fan
Interesting bits from the book (which I have not read) :-
Pyrethroids ( synthetic) were used to treat 100 mil Ha over 25% of world's
agricultural land in 1991.
( We better hope they are not toxic)
Synthetics are cheaper than natural and therefore more synthetics
There are fifty or more of Synthetics including tetramethrin, resmetrin etc
Sales have increased from 10m in 1972 to 1,400mil today (91) ( not clear if
natural or syn. or both)
Pyrethrum (natural) only botanical pesticide from before WW2 that continues
to be of importance today.
It's harder to register naturals than synthtics now.
Natural seems to pose little risk to humans.
If anyone wants me to look up anything in the book please email me.
