Yes, Fig trees seem to be a divided topic, certainly. Since
this is being currently discussed, i thought I'd make a plea
I've been thinking about for a while now.
Apparently there is a 161+ year old black, fig tree in San Jose,
behind the Roberto-Sunol Adobe. The house is a historic landmark,
and the tree is of interest to me. I do not get down to San Jose
very often, and don't really know my way around anymore (it has
all changed so much!). I'd like to know more about the tree and
perhaps obtain a phot from which I can draw it. I managed to talk
with someone who works in the buidling who was able to verify its
existence and that it still produces lots of fruit!!! (She was a
member of the 'fig-haters camp', apparently). Since the plant is
associated with this historical landmark, featuring it on our web
pages seems of interest to me. Is there someone down in the South
Bay who'd like to research this for me? Apparently there is a
small book containing information about the adobe and perhaps this
tree as well. let me know if you;d like to take this on.
Meanwhile, if anyone else knows of a worthwhile plant for our
climate that is associated or featured adjacent to some interesting
architectural or other landmark, let me know. These might make
more interesting photos/drawings which with to embelish the web
site.
Thanks.
