how to propagate Myrtus?

My Myrtus communis is loaded with ripe fruit & I'm wondering how easy it is
to grow from seed?  Last year I tried cuttings in late summer with no
success (OK the birds pulled them out and I failed to water adequately but I
expect my plants to be adaptable!)  Any suggestions would be welcome.
