OK, I was at a local nursery today when I spotted a vine I
have never seen before. As curious thing, it looked like a
grape (Vitis) but the leaves were divided and lobed like a
sort of fern! I was pleased to have that 'Oh my God, I've
got to have it' feeling that I rarely get these days. Not
knowing anything about this vine, I resisted the purchase,
being the good climate appropriate gardener that I am. ;-)
So, I'm wondering if anyone our there might know about this
genera (and perhaps what species it might be as it was labeled
merely 'sp.')? It looks like a nice plant and seems to me
(or is it wishful thinking?) to look somewhat tolerant of
drought once established. Searches on the Internet yield
much general info about the medical/herbal properties of
Paullina cupana, the Guarana (apparently a cardio stimulant
and perhaps a blood thinner), but I am not sure that this is
the same plant (seldom much of a plant description and not
pictures have I found). The nursery in which I found the
plant is well known for mediterranean climate appropriate
material but equally well-known for decidedly NON-appropriate
plants as well.
Any help out there?
Regards,
Sean O.
