Hi Laura -
I seldom see Laburnums these days, but I have known of a number in gardens
around here in the past. They very seldom did very well at all - too hot
even here in Oakland, and San Jose is much hotter! Perhaps also because
they seem to be ill-suited to the climate, they always grew and looked
rather poorly - NOTHING like those wonderful calendar photos you see of it
growing in cool, English gardens! A shame, because many people have
desired to add it to their gardens. It is also a fairly high-maintenance
plant - that massive bloom (in those climates) demands a massive clean-up!
