Dear Hans,
It looks like a cultivar of Solanum aethiopicum, considered a
red/orange-skinned eggplant. See a list in Stephen Faccioloa's Cornucopia II,
A Source Book of Edible Plants, p. 361. Someone just brought me an almost
identical sample for id; it was featured in a fall florist arrangement.
