Mystery Tree once again

Please forgive me for attaching, but this tree has defied identification
for over a year now. I bought it at a local (Corfu, Greece)garden
center and the handwritten smudged label read "pr..... litorale." It's
been thriving on the very poor soil of my orchard ever since (with no
special care and only occasional watering during the summer) and
produced fruit that were fully ripe by mid-September. They were about
1.5 to 2 in diameter, with soft flesh that tasted something like arbutus
only sweeter and tastier. The birds went crazy over them and I had to
spread a net. The leaves are thick and glossy, and the tree (about 5
ft.) has a neat and compact look, as if it had been trained as a
standard.
Can any of the wise persons on the list identify it?
Cali Doxiadis
PS. My messages will be appearing under my husband's name (Edward
Malefakis) since I'm temporarily using his professional address. I'll
have my own US address in a couple of weeks. Sorry about the confusion.
Cali
