Try Solanum aculeatissimum. It is used medically. Not sure about edible.
I have some indications that it is and some that it is fairly toxic. Might
be problems with hybrids and intermediate forms between toxic and edible
species. This is an old name the current name I have misplaced. It is used
as lei material in Hawaii and is called Kikania lei. Keep in mind that the
fruits are excellent fruit fly host material (if any one wats to get some
from Hawaii) and would be prohibited from entering the US Mainland from
Hawaii (seeds are OK from Hawaii).
