The Wordsworth Guide to Poisons and Antidotes by Carol Turkington says there are 1700 species of Solanum, most of which have not been evaluated toxicologically. Solinum carolinense is stated to cause a gastrointestinal poisoning which is rarely fatal in adults. I wouldn't garnish Halloween dishes with those cute little pumpkins just to be on the safe side!
