Bumper crop of California Poppies

A small update on my garden...

First off, things are looking good in my garden. I've done a littel
cleanup, such as removing plants that werent doing well (some bearded
irises linking a path that kept getting run over, and some grasses that
were not doing too well). I also did a little pruning on my flowering plum
in order to lighten the load (removal of branches, opening up of the
interior). I also pulled out some dandelions, and other weeds. The cannas
and the banana are looking good. One canna has flowers still (a very
pretty fall orange color with reddish streaks). My Mexican Sage is
starting to bloom and send up some new shoots.

However, the nicest surprise is the amount of California poppy seedlings
that i've found in my yard. It looks to be a couple of thousand at least,
all from plants that have colonized the drier area of my front yard (which
includes ceanothus, and bush lupines). The mother plants are still
growing. I cut them back so i could get new growth and theyre responding
well. The rain lately has caused the seeds to germinate and theyre all
looking good. Perhaps by next spring the entire front part of the front
yard will be full of California Poppies (they always get comments by
neighbors who say they cant seem to get them to take in their yards. I
just tell them i dont do anything at all for the poppies. Beauty by
neglect ;)).
