Re: Garden in need of a gardener

Hello Gardening Community,

Now that my silence is broken webwise, I'd like to make a plea to all of
you gardeners...can someone help?

There is a lovely Natural History Museum in Herakleion, Crete
(established by the University) which opened recently. We've been there
twice this summer since we have our summer house there and have enjoyed
it so much. Something for everyone: flora and fauna, beautifully
displayed, and for all age groups.

But, alas, what was I looking forward to most, once I saw the hand-out
map of the place? The garden of native plants, of course. And there
they were in the courtyard, amid an architecturally lovely set of raised
beds-a true horror show. Dead and drought-shocked plants, moldy grape
vines, tortoises climbing around rotting watermelon hulls! The least
shocking of all (but surprising nonetheless) was the absolute
inappropriate choice of soils or light exposures for any of the
specimens.

I confess I never wrote or contacted the museum directly (for fear of
embarrassing a distant relative perhaps? All of us Cretans are
related.)....but surely there is something we can do as plant lovers!
Suggestions please?
