Re: commelina coelestris


Adding to what Joe wrote, it can be vigorous in
forming ever larger clumps, on par with Billbergia
nutans, in a well watered garden setting.  It grows
quickly enough that you will easily have divisions to
share with friends, so maybe growing it in a container
may be safer until you determine how it does for you. 
As it is native to summer rainfall areas, it does need
moisture to do well here, dry shade is not to its
liking.  I've not seen it self sow in the garden
settings here in Oakland where I've seen it, and the
snails and slugs can do major damage to it, especially
during the winter.  The blue flowers are very vivid, I
can see how it would have attracted your attention,
but I've never grown it myself.
