Clipper, Pruners, & tendonitis

William Glover & Deborah Lindsay both commented in Sept about which clippers
are best (Felco or Corona), bypass vs anvil, etc. Bypass pruners win hands
down because they give a cleaner cut w/out crushing plant tissue.
As for the tendonitis, for those of you in the U.S., & perhaps even more
importantly, California, the best think I've found in the past 30 or 40 years
for tendonitis of any kind, ligament damage, torn tendons/ligaments/rotator
cuffs, is something you can get w/out a perscription at your local health food
store. I found out about it when I belonged to an Ayurvedic group called
PERFECT HEALTH (after the book of the same name by Dr. Deepak Chopra). The
cancer support groups at Stanford recommended drinking "cold-pressed liquid
aloe" (a commercially produced product). Further investigation revealed that
"not all brands are created equal", and the important variable is the active
ingredient, called "muccopolysacharide". Out of the brands explored in 1993,
the brand with the highest level of muccopolysacharide is called ALOE COMPLETE.
The preferred item is called ALOE COMPLETE CONCENTRATE, & comes in a 1 liter
bottle. It also comes pre-mixed with fruit juice, for those of you who don't
mind wasting money on someone else's idea of what would taste best. Some of
us also checked out the liquid aloe drink that Trader Joe's sells here in the
SF Bay Area, & concluded that it tasted pretty *gross*!
WHY WOULD IT BE RECOMMENDED FOR CANCER PATIENTS & OTHERS WHO HAVE COMPROMISED
IMMUNE SYSTEMS? Its pretty simple. If you are on (1) chemotherapy, (2) radiatio
(3) have allergies to NSAIDS, or asperin, (4) have negative reactions to other
anti-inflamatories & pharmaceuticals, etc., you are instructed to NOT TAKE ANY
PHARMACEUTICAL ANTI-INFLAMATORIES, AS THEY WILL COMPROMISE THE EFFECT OF YOUR
THERAPY PROGRAM, ETC. On the other hand, very few people are allergic to Aloe --I've heard of one person with such an allergy in the past 20 years, & "trust
me", I've talked to a LOT of people, both in search of my own healing, & in
my "calling" as an energy worker/landscape consultant.
MOST of the commercially available liquid aloe products (for drinking) come in
one liter bottles. Aloe Complete runs about $20/liter (retail); a bottle lasts
about a month. The other brands tend to run "cheaper", but the level of mucco-
polysacharide is lower, so then you have to ask if you prefer 1 dose/day or
2 doses/day, which makes the "cheaper" brands actually more expensive. Whew!
Testimony: When I tore my achilles tendon back in 1993 I was told I would be
on crutchesl all summer since my tear had been mis-diagnosed as a sprain, some
two months before. The cancer support group I belonged to noticed that my
hand joints were quite puffy from all the spring pruning, & they recommended
that I start drinking the Aloe Complete junk (yuck... it was very bitter when
taken "straight"). I learned in 2 days that *I* would have to pour it into
tomato juice or orange juice (heavy pulp) to keep from being turned off. But I
got used to it, and after about 5 or 6 days I was able to give up the major
drugs. 2 weeks later my spouse noticed that I wasn't using my crutches very often
any more. What a surprise! We were travelling through the desert in June & I
had to keep it refrigerated, so I got sloppy & stopped taking it, thinking that
maybe the difference was caused by some miraculous "overnight miracle". Ha!
The pain was back in a couple of days -- that is how you can tell that it
works! No nausea like I got with naprosen, no nasal polyps like you can get
with motrin/ibuprophen, etc. GREAT STUFF!! I always have a bottle in the frig.,
"just in case." -- or at this point in my life, I have that bottle there
because I have two tears in my right shoulder rotator cuff & it is totally
crippling sometimes unless I take the stuff. The good points: You can avoid/
put off surgery by drinking this stuff. The bad points: It you REALLY NEED to
get surgery to repair whatever is causing the pain, it would be better to just
GET IT DONE!.
Enough! If anyone wants more information, who can't find this stuff at your
local "Whole Foods" Market -- or other larger Health Food Market, write to me
