As far as I can remember, the castor beans are planted only on traffic islands, not in beds next to a sidewalk, so they wouldn't be accessible to children.
One deadly plant that is widely naturalized here is Conium, poison hemlock. It killed a five year old perhaps 30 years ago. I figure it might be a good project for a garden club to use Roundup on it. It would take years to be rid of it as it has been dropping seed for a very long time. Do any of you or your municipal governments make an effort to kill it?
