Pyracantha

Have a good look at them covered with berries right now. Awesome in Santa Cruz. All varieties, esp. the coccinea bunch. And these are Mediterranean. The rest, many of them equally beautiful, are from China or Taiwan. Among the hybrids, the red 'Ruby Mound' is most beautiful.
I grew up in LA before WWII, and they were everywhere (one in particular but I cannot remember which orange variety). So we looked down our noses at them. Wish I had planted a row of them 20 years ago. bill grant
