I have grown the species Dahlia coccinea in two colors for many years. The
smaller sized dahlias sold in six-packs didn't seem to live over the
winters. The great big ones are grown very successfully at the South Coast
Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes (Los Angeles) and in a private garden not far
away. I think they are out of fashion and don't fit with current garden
styles, and of course, they are gone all winter.
