Everyone's suggestions have me re-assessing my own planting list and contemplating increasing my beds. If you get adventurous, since you're so close to L.A. in weather, you could try planting zucchini and starting tomatoes in place from seed. Since zucch's are so fast to the finish, they will usually produce during the warm stretches, certainly up through the year-end and that lovely stretch of early January. And the tomatoes seem to appreciate a head-start - they seem to spend the winter putting out roots and leaves, getting ready for the first climb into nighttime 60's (15C) in April/May to produce fruit. Of course, a cold winter may do them in...

Night temperatures of 17ºC. We have very mild winters and our temperatures
should be very similar to the ones you describe for LA.
I started some lettuces, peas, and carrots. Lets wait and see how it goes.
