Re: Garden Thugs

Yesterday in my nursery rovings I saw two Solanums which were incredibly
armed and dangerous! One was from Central America and the other from either
Asia or Africa. Ok Ok I know that is obscenely vague but I had missed my lunch
No food=no memory for me.

The C.A. one (I didn't write down the specific epithets ...sorry...) had
purple foliage and long, profuse purple thorns on stems, leaf petioles and the
underside of the leaves. The A. one had green leaves with ruddy undertones
and very bright yellow thorns on the upper leaf surface- I kid you not. It was
wierdly, otherwordly, beautiful. They both look utterly lethal! I'm sure they
must be weeds
at home and in this climate would become thugs if one were to turn her back,
but such interesting, tempting weeds...
