Hugo: Understood. And sympathised with. I never understand how
nurserymen keep their patience with an idiotic public which
obstinately refuses to buy the really interesting plants!
Gary:
The name-game. Lycianthes/Solanum rantonettii. This is one of those
taxonomists' ping pong balls. We may need someone like Nick to give us
the authoritative word of the moment but my understanding is that for
a while, a few years back, what was previously S. r. did indeed become
L. r. It then went back (at least according to the UK Plant Finder) to
being S.r. Don't ask me on what basis the poor brute gets sashayed
from one compartment to the other and back again. I'm just a poor
gardener. Don't ask me,come to that, what distinguishes Lycianthes
from Solanum. Does anyone know? Are there other Lycianthes out there
worth exploring?
The seed-game. Yes, sure. I'd love to try some seed of 'the other
one,' if it's producing any this year. I'll save some of S.a.
latifolium for you, anyway. Just drop me a private e-mail with your
snail-mail.
