Another comment on elderberry flowers: adding fresh elderberry flowers to
champagne, and letting them ferment a few days, turns into wonderful
bubbly, delicious elderflower champagne. Elderberry flowers are also used
to add flavor to gooseberry ice cream (home made of course) and elderberry
flowers, dried, are a prime ingredient in a wonderful sauce for salmon.

You people are all evil, evil I tell you. :-) Talking about all these
wonderful delicious things that I don't have. Well, I have a red current I
planted last spring bareroot that's doing nicely. If I'm lucky, it will
fruit next year. My neighbors have promised me elderberry shoots next
spring...but these are the same people who wouldn't let me have the
blackberry cuttings they promised when I refused to let them add some sort
of anti-fungal ("organic" doesn't mean "when it's convinent").
So is there anyone in the Bay Area who would has gooseberry, elderberry,
current, and other interesting cuttings to share? At whenever the best
time to propagate is...I don't know when. I have various seeds and things
to take cuttings from and am always happy to make trades. I am especially
looking for edible California natives. I have a bunch of plant entries of
that ilk photocopied. I did get some cuttings from the Calif Rare Fruit
Growers last winter but they mostly tend to have tree scions.
