Ah yes, but in climates much warmer than the UK. Odd that a chappy
living in Bath of all places should raise such a rose. I've worked
out why my spelling for Alister was so odd - this is the English
spelling and I've always used the Scottish version - not because I'm a
Scot, but because I've only ever known Scots to have that name. The
reason for my other blunder has also finally come to light. A very
old and much leafed-through book - a very early edition of Pearson's
Encyclopaedia of Roses. It was my first reference book on roses some
35 years ago - and although its references to modern types were OK, I
now see a few howlers with the older types. Odd how you can pick up
on something and carry it with you for so long - even more odd that I
have not been corrected before now. I've had many discussions with
David Austin about this and others in the past. Maybe David was being
too polite or simply didn't notice.
