Barbara-
I have several varieties of the abutilon and find that they are very easy
from cuttings. I take about a 8" cutting of these and they seem to root best
on semi-ripe stems and strip the bottom leaves. I use no hormone just put
these in 50/50 perlite/vermiculite and they root during the winter months for
me. I always take cuttings in case I loose my mother plant. Don't be
alarmed if you loose most of the foliage - seems to happen if they get too
dry.
Good luck and as far as the bugs - I've had a terrible problem too - I think
I'm going to break down and use the poisen.
