Help!
I've just been given a 1-gallon specimen of a plant I admired in a
friend's garden. It came with nothing but the genus name (Gomphostigma)
and the information that it comes from Mexico. Gary Hammer who regularly
plant hunts in that country, offers it in his Montebello Nursery,
"Desert to Jungle".
The specimen I admired was one year old. It grows straight out of the
soil with a fountain-like form. At the end of each branch the tiny white
flowers open abundantly in what looks like a raceme. I was told it has
only now (autumn) just begun to bloom.
Since I see Gary so seldom, I though I'd turn to all of you first.
Anything you can tell me:
ultimate size and habit?, what is it's native habitat? growing
conditions?
The tiny linear leaves make it look drought tolerant and sun loving,
like a Genista. And, because of that resemblance, I've planted it in a
pot and will keep it there until I know more. Thanks, Jan
