Nyssa silvatica - Tupelo
I grow both sylvatica and sinensis. The species are named after Nyssa, the
water nymph. So, you will have to see they get enough water all through the
year
The Autumn colour is terrific, I like the tree very much. I have a special
form [a seedling found in a Victorian nursery] that weeps beautifully. The
colour in Autumn is red, orange, yellow - sometimes all at once, very
striking. Small flowers and purple berries.
Fertile and moist [well drained] and on the acid side soil.
Sylvatica can grow to 70 ft, the Chinese sinensis is much smaller and needs
less water
