Hi Gay - I thought the century bit might be an exaggeration. Our neighbor's
agaves have all flowered in the last three years - current one still putting out
the inflorescence on the spear - and I know they haven't been around for 100
years. Probably not even 40. 

I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoy your articles on Suite101. You
haven't mentioned to the Mediterranean listers that your garden was chosen for
garden of the month by BBC's Gardener's World, you shy thing.
